What is FTP?
(FTP) A Client server protocol which allows a user on one computer to transfer files to and from another computer over a Tcp/Ip network. Also the client program the user executes to transfer files. It is defined in STD 9, RFC 959.
In order to connect with FTP, you can use Cute FTP , WS_FTP or you can Even use Dos Mode to FTP.

What is a ping ?
Ping sends a packet to a remote or local host, requesting an echo. If the echo is returned, the site is up.
If the echo is not returned, it can indicate that either the site is down or there is some sort of network trouble along the way, although most of today's web site are behind a Firewall , which prevents the ping from returning.
How to perform a Ping?:
go to Start menue, then Run, then click Command, in the DOS mode type in :
ping <web site address > then hit Enter Key.

How to set the modem properties?
all of today's modems use different protocols and connection speed.
