Windows 3.x Dial-Up Instructions

Here are a set of instructions that will help you set up the ShivaRemote Dialer to connect to Hawk Internet Services.

 Launching ShivaRemote Dialer

In Program Manager, open the Netscape folder and double-click on ShivaRemote Dialer.

Creating a New Connection

Now a dialog box will pop up asking you to fill in some details to create a new connection file

1. Enter a description for your Internet connection like UNT Internet.
2. Enter your Hawk Internet Account username, for e.g.: abc0001
3. Enter your account password.
4. Click on Properties.

Phone Number

Enter the Phone number of the server (list of numbers) without the area code except for Dallas users.
If you need to dial a number to get an outside line (for e.g. UNT Residence Hall users) or want to disable to call waiting, then check on Build Number to Dial and select the desired dialing property.  Also enter the phone number at the bottom.

.

Protocols
Check on Obtain an IP address automatically.

Dialing
Under Dial on Demand, check on Enable to allow ShivaRemote automatically connect to the Internet when you launch an application that requires an Internet connection, such as Netscape Navigator or an email client like Simeon.
You can also set up ShivaRemote to redial if, for example, the line is busy.
Do not check on Request roaming Dial-back since our remote access servers do not support this feature.

Connection

Once you have established an Internet connection, ShivaRemote can automatically pull up an application like Netscape or Simeon.  To do this, check on Automatically start: and type the path of the application or click on Browse to find the application.
If you want ShivaRemote to drop your Internet connection after a certain amount of time of inactivity (or incase you forget to disconnect), check on Disconnect after: and specify the time after which you want the connection to be dropped.
Click on O.K. after you are done.  Before you exit ShivaRemote, save your connection settings by going to File->Save Connection File.
Connecting to Hawk
After launching ShivaRemote Dialer, open your connection file by selecting File->Open Connection File and click on Connect.
